Recipe: Chocolate peanut butter protein shake

    January 11, 2020 /

This recipe is for the chocolate + PB combo lovers out there. It is great as a post-workout drink if your next meal is a few hours away or can sub for breakfast as it is high in protein and reasonably filling. This shake can be made dairy-free depending on the protein powder you use. I used natural grass-fed whey protein isolate (WPI) from 180 Nutrition. I’m also a big fan of the True Protein natural WPI. For a dairy-free/vegan version, you can use pea or rice protein (or a blend) from one of the brands mentioned before. I used peanut butter powder from True Protein. Other supplement shops also…

    Peanut butter alternatives

    July 31, 2019 /

Peanut butter is a very popular food worldwide. However, peanuts are one of the major food allergens, affecting approximately 1 in 50 children and 1 in 200 adults (1). Fortunately, those not affected with other nut allergies can enjoy peanut butter alternatives available in the market. Why choose peanut butter alternatives Below are a few reasons why you might avoid peanut butter and choose something else: As mentioned before, peanut allergy is the main reason why someone would choose alternative products. Keep in mind that someone with peanut allergy is 25% more likely to be allergic to other tree nuts (1). Disliking the taste or texture. Believe it or not,…

Recipe: Peanut butter protein banana bread

    July 27, 2019 /

This peanut butter protein banana bread is great for breakfast, morning tea or afternoon tea. Because it’s high in protein, it also qualifies as a great post-workout snack. This treat is gluten-free and can be dairy-free. In addition, it does not contain added sugar. Notes on ingredients: I think this is common knowledge by now, but in case you didn’t know: super ripe bananas make the best banana bread You can use either smooth or crunchy peanut butter, as it will be ground further in the food processor anyway I used natural whey protein isolate from True Protein but you can use any type of whey or plant-based protein powder…

Review: Mayver’s Goodness To Go Peanut Butter

    March 30, 2019 /

One of my favourite brands of nut/seed butters and spreads, has launched a new product. Mayver’s Goodness To Go Peanut Butter are single-serve tubs of peanut butter that can be taken with you pretty much anywhere. The product The product currently comes in 2 varieties: crunchy and crunchy dark roasted (both are also available in jars). Each box contains 6 min pots, each containing 40g (2 tablespoons). As all the company’s products, these contain no artificial ingredients nor additives and are locally made. Ingredients As it’s the case with their jars of peanut butters, these contain just 2 ingredients: roasted peanuts (99.3%) and sea salt. Nutrition information Nutrient Per serve…

    Recipe: Savoury bliss balls

    April 20, 2018 /

Savoury bliss balls are my kind of healthy treat. Even though I like looking at sweet treats such as brownies, cakes and regular bliss balls, I rarely want to eat them. I prefer savoury snacks most of the time. In case you don’t know, bliss balls are those golf-sized balls you see at counters in cafes and in the health food aisles in supermarkets (e.g. Bounce balls). They’re typically made with nuts and/or seeds, some sort of sweetener (e.g. honey, maple syrup, dates) and some sort of flavouring (e.g. cacao powder, matcha, vanilla extract, spices). Some incorporate protein powder and/or collagen to be treated as a post-workout snack. They can…

Product review: Mayver’s Protein+ Peanut Butter

    April 17, 2018 /

Mayver’s Protein+ Peanut Butter is the new awesome spread from the makers of awesome spreads. Their regular peanut butters (smooth, crunchy, dark roasted smooth and dark roasted crunchy) are among my favourites, as well as their other spreads. Yes, they can be a bit more expensive than other peanut butters but they tick all the boxes ingredients- and taste-wise. The new Protein+ range has entered the market riding the wave of high protein diets popularity. The three varieties, Mayver’s Protein+ Peanut Butter, Mayver’s Protein+ with Hemp Seeds Peanut Butter, and Mayver’s Protein+ with Super Seeds Peanut Butter, follow the brand’s philosophy of minimal ingredients lists, without any added oil or…
