Product review: True Protein bars
My favourite protein brand has launched a new product. True Protein bars are a high protein snack designed with the athlete in mind.
True Protein bars
These bars are made with minimally processed ingredients. The main source of protein is whey protein concentrate, good. They also contain hydrolysed collagen peptides, which may help support soft tissue, bone health and gut health.
True Protein bars are gluten-free and sweetened with dates. They contain a decent amount of dietary fibre, which comes from organic tapioca isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO), almonds, dates and chia seeds. These bars come in 2 flavours: salted caramel and rich chocolate.
Each bar weighs 65g (the little ones in the photo are just samples) and currently sell for $5.50 on the company’s website. They are a little pricier than other options available in the market.
Ingredients
- Salted caramel: Organic soluble fibre (tapioca IMO), almonds, dates, whey protein concentrate (New Zealand grass-fed), hydrolysed collagen peptides, tahini (ground sesame seeds), natural caramel flavours, Himalayan pink salt, milk protein crisps, chia seeds, organic extra virgin coconut oil.
- Rich chocolate: Organic soluble fibre (tapioca IMO), almonds, dates, whey protein concentrate (New Zealand grass-fed), hydrolysed collagen peptides, tahini (ground sesame seeds), natural cocoa (2%), chia seeds, natural chocolate flavours, organic extra virgin coconut oil, Himalayan pink salt.

Taste test
I got a few samples at the Sports Dietitians Australia conference last month. I enjoyed both flavours although I could do with a bit less sweetness. These bars are on the chewy/sticky side, especially when the weather is warm. This is to be expected due to the ingredients (dates, coconut oil). I like the crunchiness of the milk protein crisps in the salted caramel version.
