    Recipe: Savoury bliss balls

    April 20, 2018 /

Savoury bliss balls are my kind of healthy treat. Even though I like looking at sweet treats such as brownies, cakes and regular bliss balls, I rarely want to eat them. I prefer savoury snacks most of the time. In case you don’t know, bliss balls are those golf-sized balls you see at counters in cafes and in the health food aisles in supermarkets (e.g. Bounce balls). They’re typically made with nuts and/or seeds, some sort of sweetener (e.g. honey, maple syrup, dates) and some sort of flavouring (e.g. cacao powder, matcha, vanilla extract, spices). Some incorporate protein powder and/or collagen to be treated as a post-workout snack. They can…

    Product review: Future Whey

    April 1, 2018 /

Future Whey is a newish sports supplement. I decided to try it mainly because I got a free sample, but also because the packaging got me intrigued. It looks like detergent. It looks like a prank product. It is not. The name implies this is a whey powder product, but it claims to be dairy-free – this is confusing. Future Whey is really a collection of amino-acids, including the branched-chain amino acids or BCAAs, which are the ones preferentially taken up by muscle cells. What is in Future Whey? From the website: essential amino acid blend (L Leucine, L Threonine, L Valine, L Isoleucine, L Lysine, L Methionine, L Phenylalanine,…

Product review: Giving whey another go (part 2)

    May 14, 2015 /

Last week I reviewed a couple of decent whey protein options in the market. My selection criteria were: whey has to come from grass-fed cows, supplement must be crap-free (i.e. minimal and as natural as possible ingredients), and company must offer sample sizes. Because I’m more concerned with digestibility than supplement efficiency when it comes to whey protein, I didn’t care too much that the products I tried this time where in the concentrate form, as opposed to the isolate ones I tried last time. The main difference is that isolate contains more protein; if you want to read more details head over to this article on Mark’s Daily Apple.…

Product review: Giving whey another go (part 1)

    May 4, 2015 /

It’s been 5 years since I consumed whey protein regularly. When I went paleo I cut down most dairy and noticed a great improvement in my respiratory allergies. My approach to eating is to cycle foods as much as I can because there is good and bad in most stuff (with some exceptions that I prefer to stay away from). One of the things that I have incorporated lately for convenience and for the sake of variety is whey. I had done a few protein smoothies here and there and had noticed that quality made a huge difference in my reactions, particularly an itchy throat immediately after ingestion and a…
