Product review: Mojo Kombucha and Kombucha Wonder Drink
The first time I heard the word kombucha was in System Of A Down’s Sugar (“the kombucha mushroom people, sitting around all day…”). Curious as I am, I looked for the term online and found that it was a fermented drink that hippies used to drink. I was incredibly uninterested for years until I heard Angelo Coppola mentioning his kombucha brewing and drinking habits in his podcast. I had been making and eating sauerkraut for a while, tried store-bought and homemade kefir, and was keen on introducing more probiotic-containing fermented foods into my diet. On a particularly hot day, I bought a bottle of original flavour Mojo Kombucha at my…

Product review: Paleo Hero products
Since I cleaned up my diet to base it on real nutrient-dense food my snacking has gone down to almost zero. The only occasions I munch on something that is not a main meal is when I’m extremely stressed, or drunk, or travelling, or not hungry enough for a full-sized meal. While my preference will always be to eat minimally processed snacks (nuts, for example), it’s smart to be prepared and have a supply of pre-made snacks that you can grab on the go. Product review: Hunted and Gathered products
Jerky has got to be the best snack ever. While often an image of an American cowboy or truck driver comes to mind, it’s been around for longer than people think, and not only in North America. My ancestors have been eating it forever (in Quechua it’s called charqui and it’s often made of alpaca). What makes jerky so good? It’s cured and dried, so it keeps forever. It’s high in protein, which apart from replenishing your body’s needs, keeps you satisfied much longer than carbs. It’s light in weight, making it perfect for hiking, cycling, etc. It’s tasty. Sadly it’s hard to find commercial jerky that is not full…

Product review: CO YO (coconut milk yoghurt)
There was a guy called “El tío Johnny” (uncle Johnny) who had a TV show back home when I was a little girl. Towards the end of every episode he drank a tall glass of milk bottoms-up. I always loved milk so it’s not like I needed the encouragement but I’m sure he helped lots of parents to get their children to drink milk. Fast forward a couple of decades, when gastritis came to my life. Dairy became an issue but I didn’t want to quit, so I started using lactose-free dairy products, as suggested by one of the multiple doctors I saw. I learned how most people stop producing…
