Eating in Israel for fuel and pleasure 2023

    April 9, 2023 /

This is an update on my previous article eating in Israel for fuel and pleasure based on my experience in a Krav Maga training camp, one of the top travel experiences in my life. This time my expectations were high, but my focus was different. The first trip was for an Immersion camp, open to people of all levels. This means training was not super intense. In addition, more than 20 people were from my gym in Sydney, so I felt less social anxiety. This time, I attended an Advanced Instructor Training program, so I knew it would be more technical and intense. We were only 4 Australians attending. Based…

    Recipe: Shakshuka with feta

    August 17, 2019 /

As I’m still having food withdrawals from my trip to Israel earlier this year, I have been trying to replicate some dishes in my kitchen. Shakshuka is perhaps the most popular breakfast dish in Israeli cuisine. It’s basically eggs poached in a rich tomato-based sauce, served with bread, optional toppings and a few sides. Shakshuka with feta is one of my favourite variations. This dish is gluten-free if served with gluten-free bread. I used Nonie’s Food gluten-free pita, which like all their breads is outstanding. This is a vegetarian breakfast but you can omit the cheese for a dairy-free/vegan version.

Eating in Israel for fuel and pleasure

    June 12, 2019 /

I recently came back from a week-long Krav Maga training camp in Israel. This was my first time in Israel and my first time participating in a training camp of any kind. However, I had an idea of the format and intensity based on the instructors course I did in February. I had also done some research on food availability and pricing in Tel Aviv. This post summarises my experience on eating in Israel for fuel and pleasure. Previous experience My previous experience with Israeli cuisine included shawarma, shakshuka, hummus and falafel. However, I was unsure of how much better they’d be in their county of origin. On the other…
