Product review: Edge Electrolytes

Hydration is very important for athletes but water alone is not enough; you need to replenish the electrolytes that are lost in sweat. Edge Electrolytes is a new product in the Australian market of hydration sports supplements. Read on to find out what is special about Edge.

Edge Electrolytes

The product is manufactured by Pure Aussie Sport and comes as a powder in single-serve sachets that can be bought individually or in boxes of 12.

Edge is unique because it’s made with concentrated ocean water, which provides more than 70 essential minerals, including magnesium, sodium and potassium. If this doesn’t sound appealing to your tastebuds, you’ll be pleased to know that it also contains dehydrated real fruit for flavour. Edge does not contain preservatives or additives.

The flavours currently available are double lime (regular and sugar-free) blood orange & lime, and berry infusion (regular and sugar-free).

Their latest product is an unflavoured ocean trace electrolyte mix that I haven’t tried yet.

Ingredients

These are the ingredients for the double lime (sugar-free) flavour: sweetener (xylitol), dehydrated lime juice (17%), concentrated ocean water, anti-caking agent (silicon dioxide), sweetener (stevia).

The regular flavours contain cane sugar, xylitol (sweetener), dehydrated lime juice, dehydrated blood orange juice, dehydrated berry juice and concentrated ocean water.

Taste test

I bought a pack of the double lime sugar-free flavour and received a sachet of berry infusion sugar-free as a gift. As you might expect from a product that contains concentrated ocean water, these electrolytes are a bit salty. Therefore, they taste better with chilled water. Having said that, I have a “salty” palate and did not mind the taste at all.

The product dissolves well in water, as opposed to other powdered products. Hydration-wise, they seem to do the job well.
