Chief collagen bars are the most recent product line launched by this brand of “clean” snacks. They are made in Australia with natural ingredients, targeted to active people looking for healthier alternatives.

Chief collagen bars

These bars have nuts as their main ingredient, followed, of course, by hydrolysed collagen. They do not contain dried fruit, and therefore are low in sugar. As discussed in my article about collagen, it might support soft tissue, skin and bone health. Note that, despite it being a type of protein, it does not necessarily support muscle growth.

Other interesting ingredients are camu camu (a Peruvian fruit) as source of vitamin C, bamboo fibre as a prebiotic (fuel for our gut bacteria) and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, which can fuel the brain.

Chief collagen bars are gluten-free and dairy-free, and do not contain any artificial ingredients. They come in 4 flavours: lemon tart, cashew shortbread, hazelnut brownie and peanut butter.

Ingredients

  • Lemon tart: Dry roasted cashew nuts, grass-fed hydrolysed collagen powder (11g), tapioca starch, pure organic maple syrup, MCT oil powder (MCT Oil, acacia fiber), camu camu powder (natural vitamin C), cold pressed lemon oil, monk fruit powder.
  • Cashew shortbread: Dry roasted cashew nuts, grass-fed hydrolysed collagen powder (11g), tapioca starch, organic desiccated coconut, bamboo fiber, pure organic maple syrup, MCT oil powder (MCT oil, acacia fiber), camu camu powder (natural vitamin C), vanilla bean powder and monk fruit powder.
  • Hazelnut brownie: Dry roasted cashew nuts, grass-fed hydrolysed collagen powder (11g), dry roasted hazelnuts, tapioca starch, bamboo fiber, raw organic cacao powder, pure organic maple syrup, organic desiccated coconut, Himalayan salt, MCT oil powder (MCT oil, acacia fiber), camu camu powder (natural vitamin C), vanilla bean powder and monk fruit powder, salt.
  • Peanut butter: Roasted peanut butter, roasted cashew nut butter, grass-fed hydrolysed collagen powder (11g), roasted peanut pieces, tapioca starch, pure organic maple syrup, MCT oil powder (MCT oil, acacia fiber), camu camu powder (natural vitamin C), salt, monk fruit powder.

Taste test

I really enjoyed the taste and texture of these bars because they are not super sweet and they are on the dry side. They are similar in texture to Bulletproof collagen bars. If you are more of a moist/chewy bar type of person, you might not enjoy them.

I liked all the flavours but surprisingly, this time my favourite was not the one that contained chocolate. Instead, I enjoyed the lemon tart and cashew shortbread better, perhaps because they are a little different from typical flavours.
