Taste test

We have tried the penne, spaghetti, fettucine and rice.

The spaghetti and fettucine are very similar to Slendier products. Somewhere in between pulse pasta and konjac noodles. They won’t absorb sauces as regular pasta would but they don’t feel a little more permeable than konjac noodles.

The penne has a better texture than other similar products in the market (e.g. San Remo) because they don’t break.

As seen in the first nutrient information table above, the serving size is the same for the spaghetti and fettucine but not for the penne. In theory, the difference is 30g per serving, which is not a lot but for some reason the serving on a plate feels much smaller. This could be because the serving sizes are given as cooked weight and the actual cooked weight might differ based on how much water is absorbed.

The pasta products are cooked as regular pasta: in a pot with boiling salted water. The rice can be cooked in a microwave or just by letting it stand covered with boiling water for 5 minutes. Very convenient.

The rice has a better texture than other low carb rice-like products that are made with just konjac. This is because it is made with both konjac and rice flour. Therefore, this product is starchier and higher in carbohydrate, but still has less carbs than regular rice.

Summary and recommendations

Qetoe low carb products are a good alternative for people looking to lower their carbohydrate intake, such as those with insulin resistance or diabetes. They do not have the same taste or texture than regular pasta or rice, so I recommend trying them before you decide to make them a regular addition to your pantry.

You should also decide whether they provide value for money based on your budget.
