What to drink when you are not drinking

    July 6, 2024 /

Whether you have decided to cut down on alcohol, are doing Dry July or have been selected as the designated driver, this is your guide to what to drink when you are not drinking. What are non-alcoholic drinks In the broadest sense, a non-alcoholic drink is any beverage that does not contain alcohol. By this definition, water, soft drinks, juice and cordial have always been there, as well as coffee, tea, etc. However, in the more modern sense, non-alcoholic drinks, a.k.a. NA drinks or zero alcohol drinks refer to alternatives to alcohol-containing beverages. A non-alcoholic drink is defined as “a beverage containing less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) that…

    Survey: Non-alcoholic alternatives

    May 26, 2024 /

Non-alcoholic alternatives to beer, wine and spirits are increasing in popularity. They are now available in regular supermarkets in addition to bottle shops and specialty stores. I have tried several non-alcoholic alternatives in the past, with more misses than hits. A few hits have been: I am in the process of testing other products for my own consumption but also to recommend to my clients. Please help me out by recommending any beverages you love below. Thanks in advance!

    Oat milk comeback

    November 20, 2019 /

Oat milk is back! I probably tried it for the first time 10-15 years ago. The oat milk comeback is evident now that coffee shops have it on display and/or announce it on the blackboard. Oat milk comeback evidence I used the trusty Google Trends to check how interest in oat milk has changed over the past 5 years. Worldwide, interest has increased in the past few years. The first peak in the graph below is from January 2018, with another big peak in January 2019. In Australia, however, there are a lot more peaks and valleys, the first of which in the past 5 years happened on January 2015.…

    Sugary drinks

    January 9, 2019 /

One of the simplest things you can do to change your health and waistline is avoiding sugary drinks. Liquid calories in general are a bad idea if you are trying to lose weight because they are easy to consume in large quantities. In addition, most drinks sweetened with sugar provide zero to little nutrition. What are sugary drinks? In general, any beverages that contain sweeteners with calories are considered sugary drinks. I like to go one step further and include all drinks that contain a significant amount of sugar, whether it’s naturally occurring or added. This is because, as said before, liquid calories are easy to over-consume and can become…

What’s in your coffee shop beverage?

    September 19, 2018 /

Australians love their coffee, although not as much as several Nordic and European countries (we didn’t make the list of top 20 coffee drinking countries in 2017). Australia is also a big consumer of tea, ranking #13 according to the same source. From the results of the latest Australian Health Survey (2011-12), 53.6% of women and 38.9% of men 19+ years old drink tea; 57.5% of women and 57.0% of men (19+ years old) drink coffee or coffee substitutes (1). If you fall in these groups, do you know what’s in your coffee shop beverage? Caffeine The main reason people drink coffee is caffeine, a stimulant found in coffee, tea,…
