Product review: Darikay soups

Back in the day, store-bought soups were usually nutrient-poor and full of artificial ingredients (think the old canned one and instant ramen). Fortunately, supermarkets these days offer plenty of healthy alternatives, such as Darikay soups.

Darikay soups

You will be able to find Darikay soups in the refrigerated section of your local supermarket. They come in plastic containers with 2 serves each. Each container is $6.50 in my local supermarket.

The current flavours, according to their website is:

  • Hearty Chicken Soup
  • Chicken & Corn Soup
  • Chicken Noodle Soup
  • Chicken Laksa Soup
  • Hearty Vegetable Soup
  • Classic Pumpkin Soup
  • Italian Minestrone Soup
  • Lentil Soup
  • Thai Pumpkin Soup
  • Tomato, Spinach & Quinoa Soup

The soups contain no artificial colours or flavours and they use free range chicken for their broth and as an ingredient when applicable.

The label at the back of the container displays the ingredients list, nutrition information and heating instructions. There is also an “inspiration” section with ideas on what to top with or garnish the soup.

Ingredients

Below are the ingredients for the flavours I’ve tried.

Taste taste

As mentioned before, I have only tried two of their soups: the hearty chicken and the chicken & corn. I loved both of them, they were delicious and tasted homemade.

The portion size is fine in my opinion, but you might want to add extra protein (e.g. boiled eggs, some tuna or some beans) to call it a meal. You might also want to eat your soup with some bread on the side.

Pros

  • Natural ingredients
  • Free range chicken
  • Gluten-free options
  • Vegetarian options
  • Ready to heat and eat

Cons

  • Require refrigeration
  • Can be a problem if you only want one serve
  • A bit high in sodium for people who need to limit their intake

I just adore your soups. My favourite is the tomato which I have nearly every day if I can get it. Also love the lentil. My husband thinks the beef and vegetable is fabulous. Thank you for bring us joy during this Melbourne lockdown❤️
